PPC Power Rankings are based on each player’s performance in our home games since 2022. They take into account (1) the player’s final finish position (higher finish = more points earned), (2) the size of the field (more players = more points available), (3) the size of the entry fee (higher entry fee = more points available), and (4) the number of knockouts a player collects.
For the Main Event Championship freeroll, we impute a $30 entry fee for the purpose of calculating Power Rankings.
The specific formula we use, for those interested, is:
Where P = field size (number of players in the event), E = entry fee, F = final finish position, and K = knockouts.
The Road So Far
The Whittakers host their first poker games
The Whittakers hosted our first poker game with just our parents and Chris’s sister in attendance. That group would expand to include a few close friends before Covid shut the games down for more than a year.
Poker resumes post-Covid
As the world began to emerge from the pandemic, we resumed gathering again to play ad hoc tournaments from time to time.
Christina’s friends from work began to join us, and we made our first upgrade to the poker room—denominated poker chips (Monaco-brand ABS slug chips).
Chris began to learn more about tournament structures and to refine a structure that would work for our group.
Our first yearlong season begins
With the group growing to include neighbors, family, and friends from all parts of our life, we launched our first season of a formal league, and played our first four league tournaments.
Christina graciously provided our next big upgrade to the poker room—a Shuffletech automatic shuffler!
We also secured custom designed and printed playing surfaces for our tables.
Finally, Chris learned some minor handyman skills and—with some help from his dad—built a custom cabinet to house the Shuffletech, poker chips, cash, and other hosting supplies.
The first annual Friends & Family Tournament Series concludes
After a long hiatus for the summer, the Pinnacle Poker Club was back in action, this time with a new upgrade—custom manufactured clay poker chips!
We played our final two regular season events, followed by the year-end Main Event Championship. Our first Player of the Year and Main Event Champion were crowned, along with four other season award winners.
Altaf impresses by winning second straight Main Event, and Christina runs away with 2024 POY
Season 2 at the PPC was a huge success, with 25 players joining us to play for a grand total of $2,500 in prize money.
Christina shocked the group by winning the final three regular-season events and running away with our second annual Player of the Year Award.
Altaf repeated as Main Event Champion, dominating the event after once again entering with the smallest starting chip stack.
