The Pinnacle Derby Card Is Open

A new prediction game for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby Freezeout Championship. Pick three players. Highest score wins a 5,000-chip bonus.

For Event 3 — the Kentucky Derby Freezeout Championship this Saturday, May 9 — we’re trying something new. The Pinnacle Derby Card is a friendly prediction game built around the night’s tournament, and it’s open to everyone on the PPC distribution list whether you’re playing or just following along.

How it works. Pick three players from the 20-person field: one for Win (to finish 1st), one for Place (to finish in the top 2), and one for Show (to finish in the top 3). Each player can only be picked once across your three slots.

How it scores. Every player has been assigned morning-line odds based on their PPC track record. If your pick hits, you score points equal to their odds. Highest total wins a 5,000-chip starting bonus to use at any remaining 2026 regular-season event of your choice (the Deepstack Championship in July or the Pineapple Premiere in September.

The strategy is in the slot assignment. A favorite at 5/2 odds in your Win slot pays 2.5 points if they win it all. A longshot at 30:1 in your Show slot pays 30 points if they finish anywhere in the top 3. Risk and reward are baked into where you place each pick.

The field is set. All 20 players have been profiled with career stats, recent form, and a scouting report. The favorites are clustered tight at the top — six players within a single point of odds. There’s a debut entry making his first PPC appearance with no track record. And there’s the usual mix of contenders, mid-pack threats, and longshots that have surprised us before.

Browse the field, read the reports, and submit your Derby Card →

Picks close at post time, 7:00 PM Saturday, May 9. You can submit early and update your picks anytime before then — your latest entry is the one that counts.

Good luck out there.
